U.S. Chamber files amicus brief supporting challenge to municipal ordinance that blocks pipeline and violates Commerce Clause

January 09, 2017

The U.S. Chamber filed an amicus brief in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine in a case involving a municipal ordinance designed to prohibit a pipeline company from distributing Canadian oil sands-derived oil through the pipeline for offloading and export from the local port. The brief argued that the ordinance violates the Commerce Clause and is preempted by federal pipeline safety regulations.

Patrick Strawbridge and Cameron T. Norris of Consovoy McCarthy Park PLLC served as counsel for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on behalf of the U.S. Chamber Litigation Center.
